The Dough
From one dough ball, how big is the pizza?
A single 250g dough ball turns into a 12-inch Neapolitan-style pizza, perfect for one hungry pizza lover or for sharing between two.
What is actually in the dough?
Five things: Tipo 0 WHEAT flour, water, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and yeast. That is it. It is cold-fermented for a full 48 hours, and it is naturally vegan.
Is the dough made fresh or frozen?
Both, in that order. Our dough balls are prepared fresh, then frozen to lock in flavour, quality and consistency before they are delivered to your door. Freezing at the right moment is what lets a 48-hour dough travel and still behave like a 48-hour dough when it reaches your kitchen.
How long can a defrosted dough ball be stored in a fridge?
Once defrosted, a dough ball can be safely stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. To keep it fresh, store it in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in cling film.
Do I need any special equipment to use the dough balls?
Not at all. Our dough balls are designed to be easy to use at home or professionally, with no specialist equipment required; just an oven and a little creativity.
Are the dough balls suitable for other dishes?
Yes, you can create mini garlic dough balls, Pinsas, bread, or even Focaccia. Let your mind bring your creations to the table!
Do you supply restaurants and pubs?
Yes. We are a trusted wholesale partner to pizzerias, restaurants, caterers and food service providers across the North East, including Sunderland, Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham and Middlesbrough. Sizes, prices and how to enquire are on our wholesale pizza dough page.
Ingredients, allergens, and dietary
Are the dough balls vegan?
Yes. Our dough balls are completely vegan and made without any animal products.
Do the dough balls contain gluten?
Yes. All of our dough is made with wheat flour and contains gluten.
Do you offer gluten-free dough or bases?
Not at the moment. All Pizza & Co dough is made with wheat flour and contains gluten. Everything we send out is produced and packed in the same kitchen, where wheat flour is used throughout. We would not be able to promise a genuinely gluten-free product, so we would rather be straight with you than sell you something that is not safe.
Do the dough balls contain traces of anything else?
Our dough balls carry a “may contain soya and mustard” warning. That is not because either is used in our recipe. It is because the transport used to bring in our ingredients may also have carried goods containing them, and we would rather tell you than not.
Is there a vegan cheese option?
Yes. Veganerella is a mozzarella-style grated cheese that melts, bubbles, stretches, and oozes just like traditional mozzarella, and it contains no dairy in the recipe. It is made in a dairy environment, so it may contain milk. It suits a vegan diet, but it is not suitable for anyone with a milk allergy.
Delivery & orders
How much is delivery?
Delivery is £7.50 per box to UK mainland addresses. One box holds up to 10kg, which covers most orders. If your order is heavier than that, it travels in more than one box, and each additional box is a further £7.50. The full charge is always shown at checkout before you pay.
When will my order arrive?
Order before 11am, Monday to Thursday, and your order is delivered the next day. Order after 11am Monday to Wednesday, and it arrives the day after next. Thursday’s 11am cut-off is the last dispatch of the week, so anything from Thursday after 11am through to Sunday is delivered the following Tuesday.
Which days do you deliver?
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, excluding bank holidays. We do not deliver on Saturdays or Sundays because our products are perishable and nobody wants a box of dough sitting in a depot over a weekend.
Do you deliver to my area?
We deliver to UK mainland addresses. We are not able to deliver to the Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or BFPO addresses, because our products cannot safely spend that long in transit. If you are not sure whether we can reach you, email hello@pizza-co.uk before you order.
Can I collect my order instead?
Yes. Give us a ring on 0191 523 7878, and we will arrange a collection time with you, subject to availability.
Why can't I order toppings on their own?
Our pepperoni, nduja, sauces, and cheeses are sold as extras alongside dough. To order any of them, you will need dough balls or a Pizza Party Kit in your basket too. It keeps the packaging and the cold chain working the way they are designed to.
Can I cancel or change my order?
You can cancel free of charge at any point before we hand your order to the courier. Email hello@pizza-co.uk as soon as you can, and we will refund you in full. Once the order has been dispatched, we cannot cancel it because it is a temperature-controlled parcel already in transit.
What if my order arrives damaged, thawed or wrong?
Get in touch within 24 hours of delivery at hello@pizza-co.uk with your order number and, where you can, a photograph of the problem. We will put it right with a replacement or a refund. The 24 hours matter for temperature problems in particular, because after that we cannot tell what happened in transit and what happened in your kitchen.
How is my order packaged?
Chilled items travel in an insulated liner with gel ice packs, designed to hold 0 to 8°C for up to 24 hours. Frozen items travel in an insulated liner with high-performance gel packs, designed to hold below 0°C for the same period. Ambient items are packed to protect them from damage and do not need temperature control.
Handling the dough
What do I do when my order arrives?
Take everything out of the insulated packaging as soon as you can and check it against your order. Dough balls and Veganerella go in the freezer, or the fridge if you are using them within a few days. Mozzarella and pepperoni go in the fridge. The pizza sauce and the nduja are ambient and do not need to be chilled until opened.
How far ahead do I need to take the dough out?
If it is frozen, move it to the fridge 24 hours before you want it. Then take it out of the fridge around 4 to 5 hours before you cook, leave it covered, and let it come up to room temperature until it has almost doubled in size and feels soft to the touch.
How do I cook it, and for how long?
On a pizza stone, get your oven as hot as it will go, 250 to 300°C, with the stone inside. Once the stone is piping hot, cook for 3 minutes, rotate 180° so it cooks evenly, then cook for a further 3 minutes until crisp and golden. On a BBQ or ceramic Kamado, heat the same way, close the lid and cook for approximately 8 minutes, taking a peek half way through. For a dedicated pizza oven, follow your manufacturer’s guidelines, as they vary widely between models for us to provide a single answer. Our Knead to Know guide has the full method, including stretching and troubleshooting.
How long can I freeze the dough balls?
Up to 3 months. If you are not using them on the day they arrive, put them straight in the freezer.
How long can a defrosted dough ball be stored in a fridge?
Once defrosted, a dough ball can be safely stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. To keep it fresh, store it in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in cling film.
Can I refreeze dough once it is fully defrosted?
No. Once it is fully defrosted, use it within 3 days and do not refreeze it. If it arrives semi-frozen and is still cold to the touch, that is normal, and it can safely go back in the freezer.
